Geo Bowersmith

Geo Bowersmith [they/them] works with mission-driven clients to promote collective liberation and advance social justice. As a facilitator, coach and organization development consultant, they are known for their calming presence and ability to navigate highly complex systems.

Geo became politically active in the 80s, organizing to protect biodiversity and prevent the destruction of sensitive ecosystems. They continued organizing in the 90s to stop AIDS and end hate-crimes and discrimination against the LGBTQ+ community.

Geo worked for Service Employees International Union for nearly 20 years. They activated low-wage workers to challenge racialized capitalism through personal storytelling, experiential education and non-violent direct action while staffing scores of organizing campaigns, contract campaigns and strikes. After a successful national campaign with the Strategic Organizing Center, Geo returned to SEIU and helped launch the Fight for $15. Shifting into a senior leadership role in SEIU’s internal organization development department, Geo managed all OD interventions across SEIU locals, helped create a training program for union managers, co-facilitated the BOLD-Rockwood Leadership Program, and helped launch SEIU’s first-ever leadership program for BIPOC women and gender expansive people.

Geo’s coaching expertise is in Presence-Based Coaching, a trauma-informed methodology blending mindfulness, somatics, developmental psychology, interpersonal neurobiology and resilience. As a coach, Geo specializes in supporting white leaders to develop anti-racist leadership skills and partners with clients to interrupt patterns of oppression and navigate power across race, gender and other identities.

Geo Bowersmith Coaching & Consulting LLC, established in 2020, is trans-owned and operated. Geo lives in Takoma Park, Maryland.
